Impossible Crimes (2021)

by Benjamin Lee Farley

/
1.
Great Grandfather killed a man just out of spite But his son only killed in the war And HIS son never killed but he'd dream it at night And HIS son never settled one score The bloodthirst of the bloodline declines Knock on wood, I've never done time
2.
Gimme all your drugs Need something I ain't done I need a new idea, new kinds of fun I'm not looking for A sentimental thrill So could you hook it up with just a pinch of fentanyl? My prescription or yours? Your prescription or mine? Gimme all of your drugs Gimme all of your drugs I'm tipping over trying Testing window sills Willows and widows weep at the sight off another bitter pill So gimme all your drugs Need something I ain't done I need some new ideas, new kinds of fun My prescription or yours? Your prescription or mine? Gimme all of your drugs Gimme all of your drugs Like a good martyr should Softer nails, harder wood Through the wrists, not the palms Hard to miss with these bombs
3.
I got vampire fangs You got that bleeding heart On your sleeve, don't need a vein It's a start I could learn to haunt you I could learn to haunt you Put a curse upon you I could learn to haunt you Fake blood ain't gonna do a thang Up against the thirst of ages Hung by roots and DNA Make that change I could learn to haunt you I could learn to haunt you Put a curse upon you I could learn to haunt you I could learn to haunt you I could learn to haunt you Put some hoodoo on you I could learn to haunt you
4.
Keep your head up too long, something's bound to chop it off But that's weight off your shoulders til the blood dries Fingers poking through, I think your skull is getting soft Data leaking stealthy as the drone flies Pull your head out of your ass so it can get blown off You'll be worth about a billion semper fi Pull your pecker out in public and it's bound to stay soft You'll live a lot of lonely fourth of Julys Reach around money oughta cure that cough and your coal miner alibis See a doctor they'll poke they'll prod they'll scoff And none of us is anyone to eulogize But maybe we could get it up to say Holy everlasting God he's gone But oh oh oh He'll live on

Now Now Now 03:38
We don't think about the future, there's too much that could go wrong When the planet is on fire and it's running out of songs Plus what if we lose all our money? What if all our loved ones die? What if everything we ever knew was just an everloving lie? So we just think about now Now now now We don't think about the past, there's all that stupid shit we did Even all of human history we're only just a kid Making horrible mistakes, making decent people cry Making everything that we were ever taught just an everloving lie So we just think about now Now now now Well we think about the present, we just focus on our breathing We don't worry where we're going, it don't matter when we're leaving There's a universe within us and a multiverse outside There's a lie in every truth and a truth in every everloving lie So we just think about now Now now now
7.
We can tell this ain't your favorite place It's well-written on your famous face It's a lie but it's a little true We got everything you wanted to So go get that medicine, simmer down I guess we'll never get off the ground Caught a spell it seems your mind erased In your hell or some less holy place Up all night but is it morning too? You got everything you wanted to So god bless that medicine, get it down I find my medicine on the ground Go get that medicine, simmer down I guess we'll never get off the ground
8.
One day I'ma get me a Steinway Grand Nine feet long, filled with songs Waiting for a shaky hand To come along and play it One day I'ma get me a Telecaster Painted black, pickguard to match Whole crowd of people yelling "Pick it faster!" But I can't hear them say it 'Cause one day I'ma have me a full blown stack Spend a couple grand, don't even care what brand Long as it's loud enough to blow you backward I'll pony up and pay it Either I'll make a million and buy all these things Or I'll keep robbing banks just to keep me in strings Music's expensive but it don't have to be I've been getting by for a thousand years free
9.
No face in the background No trace of a human sound No sign of a break-in No telling what happened And none of us can solve An impossible crime That none of us can solve No fingerprints nowhere No lingering human hair No telltale heart to be found No telling what went down No haunting to speak of No accounting for human love No DNA splattered No telling what matters And none of us can solve An impossible crime That none of us can solve No answers for no one No dancers or human fun No definite ending No rest for the dead men
